Here, little fishy.

Today Barney swam for the first time and LOVED it.

I’d purchased all the neat accessories he’d need.  I wanted him to enjoy it as much as I did when I was a child.  I spent most summers in my grandparents pool and I thought swimming would be much more interesting with colourful bathers, a new towel and a ring float, yes?

No, not quite. The only thing the float did was leave me light headed blowing it up, and took me more effort to deflate than it did to swim.

He also didn’t need bathers, it was so warm he could of easily swam in his swim nappy.  In fact, it was like a sauna outside of the pool. With that heat and the blowing of the unnecessary swim float, I was close to collapse. We wouldn’t need towels to dry off.  My only concern was would he be sick in the pool?  He was quite a sicky baby, and I knew what would happen to his sick as he had vommed in the bath a few days earlier.  I really didn’t want to be floating around in clumps of my son’s churned up milk, so I crossed my fingers and hoped there wasn’t to be a repeat performance!

Fortunately there wasn’t, and it was pure bliss.  We floated around together without a care in the world.  The only time he cried was when I took him out. Not for the cold air hitting his body, but for the sodden nappy – boy do those things soak up the water.

That’s my boy.
